// A little overview of the Louvre
Louvre Abu Dhabi has its roots traced back to March 2007 when the UAE and France joined forces to create a unique cultural partnership. This collaboration led to the establishment of Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, showcasing a blend of the UAE's forward-thinking cultural vision and France's artistic expertise. Together, they delve into universal themes that unite humanity, resulting in a museum that embodies the dynamic spirit of the contemporary Arab world and honors the rich multicultural heritage of the region. Agence France-Muséums, representing 17 prestigious French cultural institutions, oversees the loan of artworks and provides management support for this UAE museum.
// Planning your trip
Plan to spend 2-3 hours exploring the property and exhibits, but consider allocating 4-5 hours if you wish to dine at the restaurant. The property boasts stunning architectural designs throughout. The historical artifacts are remarkable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time discovering and learning. The exhibits are thoughtfully arranged for optimal viewing.
// My favourite piece to see
One artwork that I absolutely adore is "The Cup of Chocolate" by the talented French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919). This stunning oil on canvas painting showcases a beautiful model named Margot. Created between 1877 and 1878, it captures the essence of a young French bourgeois woman in a captivating portrait.
// A few things to consider for your visit
Allow for time to enjoy lunch or dinner at the on site restaurant; the world-renowned Fouquet’s restaurant is fantastic.
Avoid hottest part of the day in summer months, opt to go in the morning or evening taking advantage of the late closing hours from Friday to Sunday.
If you find yourself with some spare time, make sure to visit The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. This magnificent mosque is not only the largest in the country but also serves as the primary destination for daily Islamic prayers.
Another thing to have in mind is the museum is closed on Monday’s so that this into account when planning your trip.
I hope you found this guide helpful, and for anyone preparing for a visit to the Louvre, I wish you a fantastic time
